Church and convent of the Congregation of Saint Philip Neri - Contemplation and silence in the heart of Porreres
The convent and church of the Congregation of Saint Philip Neri began to take shape in 1885, when members of the Oratory arrived in Porreres and settled initially on a provisional basis. Shortly afterwards the chapel was blessed and the foundation stone of the new complex was laid; the ensemble was finally completed in 1911. The church, designed by Pere d’Alcàntara Penya and consecrated by Bishop Campins, follows a Latin cross floor plan with an additional chapel off the right transept. The central nave, covered by a barrel vault and supported by pilasters, is flanked by side chapels. Today this complex stands as one of the most significant religious spaces in the village and a lasting testament to the legacy of the Oratory in Porreres.
