The Sanctuary of Mare de Déu de Monti-Sion, set on the hilltop that watches over Porreres, has been for centuries a prominent centre of devotion and learning. The chapel, probably built in the late 15th century, established itself as a key religious landmark, while in the 16th century a grammar school was founded there to prepare students for the Estudi General de Mallorca. In the 19th century, educational reforms and the confiscation of church properties led to the decline of the complex. Thanks to initiatives such as those of rector Pere Joan Campins and the restorations carried out in the 20th century, the sanctuary was revived and its access routes improved. Today, Monti-Sion is a deeply cherished place, valued for its stillness, its landscape and its strong roots in popular tradition.
